A Hotter Future
What’s happening
The Hotter Earth Leadership Programme is based on two central beliefs about what will happen in the first half of the 21st century:
- We will move into a post-carbon era
- We will experience the very serious effects of a changed climate
These two assumptions combine in a scenario that is likely to turn our world upside down. The big threats of peak oil, climate change and an unsustainable human population, present us with the biggest and most complex set of problems ever seen by humankind. Each of these is an enormous and unprecedented problem; together they threaten to overwhelm us.
These same conditions, however, will be the crucible that forges a fundamental transformation of consciousness and starts the emergence of new ways of inhabiting our planet.
Hotter in Every Sense
Dwindling oil and gas reserves means that energy security is now a hot issue. The economics of energy will turn upside down long before the last barrel is pumped, which means that international politics is going to heat up. The consequences of peak oil will put the heat on the infrastructure of every modern society.
Demand for energy is increasing and not a single nation looks likely to meet their carbon emission targets. This surely means that we will see further increases in average global temperature. Our atmosphere will get hotter and the consequences of climate change will turn the heat up on all of our planets’ life support systems.
And the fire of transformation is getting hotter under our own backsides. Human consciousness is evolving, we ourselves are in the melting pot. Old ways are dissolving, new ways are starting to crystalise from the mix. The world we live in, natural and man made, will soon be changed out of all recognition. Humankind must adapt.
